Where we come from
Brooks Bros Jiu Jitsu started with a simple belief: an academy is defined by the culture on its mats, not the trophies on its wall.
We built this gym to bring serious, well-taught Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to Santa Barbara families in a clean, welcoming space — the kind of place you're comfortable dropping your eight-year-old off at, and the kind of room you want to train hard in yourself.
Every student walks in a beginner. Every student gets the same respect and the same attention, whether it's day one or year ten.

Coach Brooks
Head Instructor & Co-Founder
(Black Belt) Travis Brooks brings a highly technical, fluid, and adaptable approach to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. His style is difficult to describe until you experience it firsthand‚ nothing feels forced, yet everything seems to lead somewhere. Rolling with Travis can feel a little like fighting against quicksand: the harder you fight your way out, the deeper you seem to fall into the trap.
Rather than relying on strength or forcing positions, Travis prefers an open, dynamic style of jiu-jitsu. He moves naturally from side to side, attacking from different angles and taking advantage of whatever his opponent gives him. He makes complex techniques look effortless.
Travis received his black belt from Rodrigo Clark and brings years of teaching experience to Brooks Bros Jiu Jitsu. He has worked with students at every level‚ from complete beginners to experienced practitioners‚ as well as children, and is known for his patient demeanor, positive attitude, and ability to communicate technical concepts in a way students can understand and apply.
For Travis, teaching jiu-jitsu is about more than developing better grapplers. He believes in creating an environment where students can learn, experiment, challenge themselves, and genuinely enjoy the process of getting better.
As a founder and instructor at Brooks Bros Jiu Jitsu, Travis is excited to build a school centered around technical jiu-jitsu, thoughtful instruction, a positive culture, and a community where students of all ages and experience levels can grow.
We are finalizing our contracts with some quality instructors that will be the best fit for our members and team.
